There is a very interesting short book about the history of "The King's Highway" and the very early Quaker cemetery by the Pennsauken Creek on my (our) 7th Great Grandfather William Matlack's land. It is written in 1905 by Asa Matlack Stackhouse for a local history meeting they had at the site of the burial ground. It gives so much history of the area and the Society of Friends and I absolutely love the way in which it is written. Very interesting and I'd love to know if any of you know of the area where it is actually located and if you recognize any of the places described along the King's Highway.

Hi Gail - the family property is right off Church Road in Maple Shade/Moorestown area. If you google Matlack Dr., or Cropwell Rd in Maple shade you will see it. The property was on both sides of Church Rd going up to Kings Highway (41) just before Coles cemetery. Asa Jr and family (his mother also) and the Matlack/Stackhouse are in Coles near the front entrance on the left. There are also a number of HAINES there also on the right of the entrance. Matlack's are in the Haddonfield Friends as well as the Moorestown Friends cemetery. William III is in the Evesham Friends Cemetery. Feel free to email me. Jim Matlack, descendant of William the 1st., son William II.
